SALMON FISHING
The 2008 season for Salmon and Swyn was a very good one we look forward to the coming Salmon season of 2009. We hope with all the rain through this July we will soon start to see some early fish showing on Tregaron beats. The report that follows was the report of 2008. please could you submit the report of any fish caught this season 2009 to Email:toTEIFIJ@aol.com and then I can keep the web site updated. Wish you all the best for the coming season, and please don't forget that on club water for conservation measures we have put a three Salmon limit per angler per season. In conjunction with the T.F.F we are offering a reward to all anglers that practice catch and release with their salmon. The first report of fish coming to the net is from John Dann of Tregaron took a small Swyn on the 24th of July and a Swyn of 5 3/4 lbs fell to a worm on the 22nd july quite a few Salmon have been seen rolling in the pools. Ryan of Carmarthan who landed the 5 3/4 lbs swyn also lost an early Salmon hope this bodes well for the 2009 season. Friday 4th of September saw a salmon of 10lbs lost at the bank side the angler from Telford had no net. On Sunday the 6th I took an 8lbs Salmon on my first cast on beet 4 the Salmon Had been in the the river some time it was very dark it was returned to the water, if we can have rain in the next two weeks the main run of fresh silver Salmon will start to enter the river and run up stream to our beets in Tregaron so get out with your rod and you may be the one to tell me your experiance of catching a salmon.
In 2008 Early rains in July saw a number of of Swyn to 7lb coming to the net to the delight of a few anglers. Then the river level dropped again' the water conditions again becoming favourable for both dry and wet fly Brown Trout fishing. At the start of August a little rain again gave the water the rise and the tinge that Salmon anglers wish for all season. A number of fresh run silver Salmon have been seen and a coulple have been landed to date this is very good news for the upper beets of the Teifi. We are well into September now and the water has been high for some time up till now we have had reports of only 9 salmon comming to the net. As October aproaches we should start to see a lot more Salmon enter the upper beets of the Teifi. Tight lines.
Friday 10th October Saw 9 Salmon come to the net at Beet 4 the bigest one was 10lbs a 12lbs salmon was landed at Pont Llanio. Please rember on the tregaron beets we have a 3 salmon limit per season. Another Salmon was landed on the fly at Garth on Sat 11th of october a 14 lbs Salmon was landed at Llanfair Clodogau. Sunday on beet 4 another 6lbe Grils came to the net and three salmon were landed at Llanfair Clodogau and all returned to the river. Monday saw another fresh run salmon come to the net at Pendol. But by now the river was full of autumn cast off's leaves' then on teusday evening rain came sending the water quite colored only a couple of salmon were seen rolling on wednesday. Only two days left now lets see what thursday and friday bring.
Things was very quite on thursday one fish reportedly of 20lbs plus was lost at Pont Llanio and another fish of 8lbs being landed a few yards down streem. Friday as far as we know saw only 3 salmon come to the net 2 at pendol and one at the bridge at Llanfair. At a meeting of the T.F.F. on Teusday 4th of November it was felt by all that this had been the best Salmon season for 25 years but what was even better was the fact that many more anglers now are returning their catch so that they may continue to there redds to sporn. Well done to all for taking this conservation measure.
If you have been out on the Tregaron beets and have a story you would like to share please let me know email Teifij@aol.com and we will be happy to publish your comments.
